    Hi Jemima.

Welcome to the Scoolinary community! Thank you for your question.

The amount of flour a stand mixer can handle without straining the motor depends on its power and the type of dough you’re working with. Here are some general recommendations based on mixer size:

    Capacity Recommendations:

    -5L (around 500W – 800W):

Flour: Up to 700g – 1kg for light bakery or pastry doughs.

For heavier doughs (bread or pizza), it’s best not to exceed 500g – 600g of flour to avoid overloading the motor.

    -5.5L (around 800W – 1200W):

Flour: Can handle 1kg – 1.2kg for light doughs.

For denser doughs (bread, brioche, croissants), it’s recommended not to exceed 800g – 1kg of flour.

If you’re looking for a mixer to handle heavy doughs like bread or croissants, I’d recommend one with at least 1000W of power and 5.5L or larger. If you’ll mainly be making lighter pastry doughs, a 5L mixer with 800W should be sufficient.

    I hope this information helps.

    Best regards!
