Dubai is quite an expensive city, as most food is imported from all over the world. I like to “shop the sales”, so when I found a packet of fine French green beans at a reduced price, I had to buy it.
I made a very popular South African side dish: green bean mash. It’s simply green beans, potato, butter, salt and pepper, mashed together. Sometimes onions are added too. This is such a common dish, you can find it in most restaurants in South Africa, also on the table for Sunday lunch. It’s even sold at the deli counters in supermarkets, alongside other prepared foods.
Have you ever had green bean mash?

@Sol Damiani It is such a comfort food to me, because I grew up eating it. It can also be made with frozen green beans. I’ll try and see if I can find a way to plate it nicely when I serve it tomorrow.

Hi Mandie.
I have never tried green bean mash, but I understand it is a combination of green beans, potatoes, butter, salt, and pepper, sometimes with onions. Although it seems like a simple recipe, I can see that the result can be very comforting. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Best regards.
