Hi Vipin.
Welcome to the Scoolinary community!
Here’s a classic Rösti recipe for you to try, ensuring it turns out crispy on the outside and tender on the inside:
Ingredients:
4 medium potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet are ideal)
2-3 tablespoons of butter (you can use oil if you prefer)
Salt to taste
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
(Optional) Fresh herbs or grated cheese for extra flavor
Instructions:
1. Wash and peel the potatoes. If you prefer a more rustic Rösti, you can leave the skins on.
2. Grate the potatoes using a coarse grater. Place the grated potatoes in a colander or a clean cloth.
3. Remove excess water: Press the grated potatoes with your hands or wrap them in the cloth and squeeze out as much liquid as possible. This step is key for achieving crispiness.
4. Season the grated potatoes with salt and pepper to taste. You can also add herbs like thyme or parsley for extra flavor.
5. Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat and melt a tablespoon of butter or heat some oil.
6. Form the Rösti: Place the grated potatoes in the pan and press them down with a spatula to form a “pancake.” You can make one large Rösti or several smaller ones.
7. Cook for 8-10 minutes on one side until golden and crispy. Adjust the heat if needed to prevent burning.
8. Flip the Rösti: Use a plate or flat lid to help flip it if it’s large. Add a bit more butter or oil, and cook for another 8-10 minutes.
9. Serve hot, either on its own or with sour cream, cheese, or even fried eggs.
If you decide to make it, it would be amazing if you could share a photo of your results! You can upload
it in our “Cooking Feed” section.
